SRF, the Center for Biological Diversity, and the Alameda Creek Alliance will host our first-ever Steelhead Summit in the Bay Area. Thursday will include a full day assembly and an evening Poster Session that will highlight conservation strategies for steelhead recovery, including monitoring efforts, recovery planning, climate change adaptive strategies, and more. Friday and Saturday will include tours to Alameda Creek Watershed, San Francisquito Creek, South Bay Watersheds, and more. See the tour descriptions here. The preliminary agenda is now posted.

The 44th Annual Salmonid Restoration Conference will be held in Santa Barbara, California, on April 27 - 30, 2027, at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort. The First Call for Abstracts is now open; to submit an abstract for a workshop or concurrent session, please fill out this form by Thursday November 19, 2026. Questions can be emailed to abstracts@calsalmon.org.

SRF is still soliciting workshops and concurrent session proposals for the Conference. The Call for Proposals will remain open through Thursday, September 10 for workshops only and concurrent sessions only.

SRF will share a booth with Friends of the Eel at the annual North Country Fair in Arcata this September. Stop by to learn about updates on our low-flow monitoring program on tributaries to the South Fork Eel, ongoing restoration projects, the Tribal Capacity & Climate Resilience Program, and other upcoming educational opportunities. Friends of the Eel will be sharing the latest information regarding dam removal and efforts to restore flow to the Eel River. SRF will also have freshly stocked merchandise for sale. The Northcoast Regional Land Trust (NRLT) invites the community to a celebration on Thursday at Freshwater Farms Reserve Barn, (5851 Myrtle Ave, Eureka) marking the final stages of the Wood Creek Restoration project that will restore tidal connectivity and salmon rearing habitat in the Freshwater Creek Watershed. Presentations begin at 5:00 pm, followed by an Optional Site Walk at 6:30 PM.  This free event is open to the public but RSVPs are encouraged. More info at ncrlt.org.

The public comment deadline for the Potter Valley Hydroelectric Project Scoping Document was extended until September 18th. FERC will also hold two in-person scoping meetings at the Wharfinger Building (1 Marina Way, Eureka, CA 95501).  Before the Friday meeting at 5 p.m., join Save California Salmon (SCS) for an informative rally highlighting why decommissioning the Scott and Cape Horn dams is critical to the health of the Eel River watershed and surrounding communities. CalTrout is partnering with the Rotary Club of Eureka to host the second annual Eel River Expo: A Source to Sea Community Event! The Expo is a free community event that will include family activities, brief presentations from keynote speakers, and informal presentations from local scientists and other watershed experts at activity booths. The U.S. Forest Service is moving forward with efforts to rescind the 2001 Roadless Rule, which protects millions of acres of public lands from road construction and large-scale timber harvesting. This is a critical decision that could have lasting impacts on California’s watersheds, wildlife, and communities that rely on clean, healthy rivers. Tell the U.S. Forest Service to keep the Roadless Rule in place by submitting a public comment before September 21.

The scientific article Rewilding the upper Klamath River Basin: rapid recolonization of Chinook salmon following the world’s largest dam removal was published on August 27, 2026 and shares the first quantitative assessment of salmon response to the project.
