2024 SRF Award Recipients

SRF is happy to announce the 2024 Award Recipients. Bob Coey (recently retired from NOAA Fisheries) and Virginia Mahacek (retiring from WRA) received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Darren Mierau of California Trout - North Coast Region received the Restorationist of the Year Award. Mariska Obedzinski (CA Sea Grant) received the Golden Pipe Award. Jeff Miller (Alameda Creek Alliance) received the Gordon Becker Award


Session and Workshop Presentation Online

Select 2024 conference session and workshop presentations are posted including the Klamath Dam Removal and Beaver and PBR sessions. Stay tuned for more as well as the Plenary videos.


Featured Resource Page: Beavers

There were field tours, workshops, and sessions focused on beavers and process-based restoration at the conference. Some of the resources shared were added to the  Beavers Resource page. Please let SRF know if you have another resource to share.


SRF Board Elections

Please join SRF or renew your membership today. Membership includes the privilege to vote for the board of directors as well as the connection to a network of thousands of scientists and practitioners with an interest in California fisheries and watershed restoration. Please let SRF know if you are interested in running for the board by April 19 since board ballots must go out by April 29.

Board ballots are mailed to members within one month of the Annual Meeting at the conference. 


Save the Date - 26th Annual Coho Confab
September 13-15, 2024, Rock Creek Ranch

SRF, with the support of California Department of Fish and Wildlife, will host the 26th Annual Coho Confab at the beautiful Rock Creek Ranch on the South Fork of the Smith River. The pristine Smith River is the largest undammed river in California and is located in the northwest corner of the state in the Siskiyou Mountains. Learn more here


CDFW Fisheries Restoration Grant Program
Proposals due April 18

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is now accepting full applications for projects under the Fisheries Restoration Grant Program (FRGP). The 2024 FRGP Proposal Solicitation Notice and 2024 FRGP Guidelines outline the priorities and requirements to apply.

May 24, 2024

Does your organization have an event planned for World Fish Migration Day? You could ring the fish doorbell for the city of Utrecht or the California Fish Passage Forum is holding trivia!


Shortcourse on River Restoration
Aug. 19-23, 2024

UC Berkeley's River Lab is offering Geomorphic and Ecological Fundamentals for River and Stream Restoration at the Sagehen Creek Field Station, Truckee, Ca. The course emphasizes geomorphic and ecological processes as a basis for planning and designing river restoration, covering general principles and case studies from a range of environments, and includes field measurements, mapping, interpretation, and field trips. 


The Last Coho Exhibit
May 4 - Aug 30, Laguna Environmental Center

The Last Coho” is a photography exhibit combining large-scale portraiture of endangered salmon with editorial excerpts that collectively illustrate the incredible effort to rehabilitate Coho in the Russian River Watershed.


Conservation Hydrology Intern

This is a seasonal, part-time position that will work primarily with the Trout Unlimited (TU) Conservation Hydrology program based out of Emeryville, California. Learn more here.
