For the last four years, we have partnered with SRF to host Fish & Fire workshops that focus on the many intersections–ecological, cultural, and spatial–among fish and fire. Unlike past workshops, this workshop will bring the conversation to southern California, where fire and aquatic ecosystems face unique challenges and opportunities. These annual workshops have started to build a community of holistic-thinking practitioners, inspiring new ways of implementing and scaling restoration work to consider both aquatic and upland opportunities and needs. This next Fish & Fire workshop will continue the conversation, highlighting recent examples and digging further into the ecology of fish and fire, the impacts of fire exclusion and fire suppression on aquatic habitats, and the potential for restoration practitioners to more meaningfully bring fire into the way they envision and implement their work. As in past workshops, we aim to create a fun, upbeat environment full of rich dialogue, door prizes, art and knowledge exchange, and new networks of colleagues and friends. Whether you’re a fish person, a fire person, or something else altogether, we hope to see you there!
