CalTrout and partners at UC Davis and UC Berkeley recently completed and will be releasing the third edition of State of the Salmonids (SOS), a comprehensive statewide assessment of threats and status of California's 32 salmon, steelhead, and trout Population Segments. 

 

Initiated in 2008, repeated in 2017, and now updated again in 2027, the SOS report is a rigorously researched assessment of recent status and trends in each of California’s native salmonid populations, resulting in peer-reviewed species accounts that summarize the best available scientific information from federal, state, and local partners and CalTrout’s own regional monitoring programs. The species accounts provide a scoring of threat level based on the methodology of the 2015 CDFW Species of Special Concern report that are peer reviewed by species experts. SOSIII also identifies and synthesizes actionable recommendations to lay a Path to Recovery. 

 

Speakers are invited to share their own assessments of current salmonid Population, ESU, or DPS status, ongoing and growing threats, and strategic-level planning that is aimed at turning the corner from extinction-prevention and toward species recovery.
