Field Tour Coordinator: Rosi Dagit, Principal Conservation Biologist, Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains

 

This all day field tour will include a trip along the coast of the Santa Monica Bay to explore the various fish passage barriers and their site specific restoration opportunities from Big Sycamore to Topanga Lagoon. We will have lunch at Malibu Lagoon which was restored in 2012, and see Rindge Dam, the main upstream fish passage barrier that is proposed for removal. Additionally, we will visit Topanga Lagoon where fish passage restoration is proposed as part of a comprehensive multi-benefit restoration. Participants will also see the impacts from the Woolsey Fire (2018) and Palisades Fire (2025) on habitat suitability for humans and fish.

 

*There will be some easy hiking and moderate scrambling to access the sites.
