2010 SRF Award Recipients

This video was presented in honor of the innovative work done by Rocco Fiori, engineering geologist for California State Parks, and the Yurok Tribe. Rocco has pioneered bio-geomorphic restoration techniques, such as building engineered log jams, complex wood structures, and re-placing large wood to stream channels using helicopters.

Fisheries Restoration Grant Program Deadline, April 8

Applicants must use the 2010 FRGP Application form to be eligible for review and consideration. In order to be considered for the 2010/2011 funding, proposals submitted by mail must have a U.S. POSTAL SERVICE POSTMARK no later that April 8, 2010. Proposals delivered by any other means (FEDEX, U.P.S., etc.) including hand delivery must be delivered no later than April 8, 2010, at 3:00 pm. For applicaion please click here

5th Annual Spring-run Chinook Symposium
July 21-23, 2010 Chico, CA

The Spring-run Chinook symposium will feature tours of restoration efforts in Butte Creek, Deer Creek, the Big Chico Creek Ecological Preserve and the Oroville Dam. The agenda and registration will be posted in May.


13th Annual Coho Confab
August 13-15, 2010 Westminster Woods in the Russian River Watershed

SRF, Trees Foundation, Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District, and Occidental Arts and Ecology Center will host the 13th Annual Coho Confab at Westminster Woods http://www.westminsterwoods.org/. Field tours will include water conservation, catchment, and restoration projects at OAEC, a tour of the dam removal at Camp Meeker and Gold Ridge RCD Large Woody Debris projects, a tour of the Austin Creek and the Russian River estuary, the Captive Broodstock program, and Dry Creek vineyards practicing fish-friendly viticultural methods.


North Coast Fish Passage Field School with Michael Love & Associates
November 16-18, 2010 Eureka, CA

This “hands on” workshop is intended to guide design engineers, hydrologist, biologist, and environmental planners through the design and implementation process. Short lectures will be supplemented with group design exercises, case studies of recently completed projects, and a day-long field trip to visit on-the-ground projects. The workshop will emphasize a multidisciplinary approach for achieving passage of fish and other aquatic species.


Applications for Community-Based Marine and Anadromous Fish Habitat Restoration Projects
Deadline June 7, 2010 BY 5:00 p.m. (EDT)

The FishAmerica Foundation announces the availability of approximately $1 million for local efforts to accomplish meaningful on-the-ground restoration of marine, estuarine and riparian habitats, including but not limited to salt marshes, mangrove forests, and  freshwater habitats important to anadromous fish species (fish like salmon and striped bass that migrate to and from the sea).  Approximately $200,000 of the available funding will be dedicated specifically to stream barrier removal projects furthering NOAA’s Open Rivers Initiative. Individual grant awards range between $10,000 and $75,000 per project.
