Gwen Santos

Gwen is a wetland ecologist and the Director of Ecology & Regulatory for the Western Region of RES. Gwen is the lead ecologist for the restoration scope of the Klamath River Renewal Project supporting the regulatory, design, and implementation planning effort over the last four years. Gwen manages the revegetation program and the terrestrial resource protection measures during implementation. Gwen specializes in wetland, riparian, and floodplain habitat restoration, benefitting salmonid restoration. Gwen currently leads a team of 11 ecologists and regulatory specialists implementing terrestrial resource protection measures for Klamath, conservation land stewardship, and regulatory approvals for conservation bank entitlements. Prior to joining RES, Gwen worked as a contractor for the San Francisco Bay Branch of NMFS. There, Gwen worked on Endangered Species Act consultations for the benefit of salmonid conservation and managed funding and coordinated the Caltrans’ Bay Bridge mitigation program for eelgrass restoration. Gwen graduated from San Francisco State University’s Estuary and Ocean Science Center with an M.S. in Ecology & Systematic Biology.
