The 26th Annual Salmonid Restoration Conference was a huge success. If you attended the conference and did not have a chance to fill out an evaluation form, please fill one out now so we can continue to improve the caliber of the conference each year. California DFG Posts Fisheries Restoration Grant Program RFP
Proposals due May 9

This year's Solicitation and Application Form are available on the DFG web page. This document explains Department of Fish and Game's proposal requirements and info that will assist you in preparing and submitting proposals to this program. This document includes the deadlines and format required when submitting proposals, the process used by the Department of Fish and Game in evaluating the proposals, and prospective sources of funding for this grant program.
In order to be considered for the 2008/2009 funding, proposals submitted by mail must have a U.S. POSTAL SERVICE POSTMARK no later than May 9, 2008. Proposals delivered by any other means (FEDEX, U.P.S., etc.), including hand delivery, must be delivered no later than May 9, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. to 830 S Street, Sacramento, California.

YSI Foundation Minding the Planet 60th Anniversary Grant

In honor of their 60th Anniversary YSI will be awarding a special $60,000 grant to an organization focused on protecting water resources. Since 1990, YSI has publicly demonstrated commitment to its core values and being a good corporate citizen through its 501(c)(3) Foundation. The Foundation grants have funded a variety of projects, including university environmental science scholarships, large scale restoration projects, a wetlands data center, and equipment for fishermen who lost their livelihood in the December 2005 tsunami. This year the Foundation is pleased to recognize the important work local volunteer monitoring organizations are doing to improve the quality of the nation's water.

Bureau of Reclamation - Mid-Pacific Region Posts RFO

This Request for Funding Opportunity is authorized to provide funding assistance for the improvement of fish and wildlife habitat associated with water systems or supplies affected by Reclamation projects. For more information, please see web site.
Areas of Special Biological Significance (ASBS) Grant Program
Workshop on April 23rd

Proposition 84 provides approximately $33.25 million in matching grants to assist local public agencies to comply with the discharge prohibition into ASBS contained in the California Ocean Plan. The ASBS Grant Program Guidelines will be presented to the State Water Board for adoption on April 1, 2008. Following adoption of the Guidelines, DFA will release a solicitation notice for Concept Proposals. Workshops will be held on Wednesday April 23rd to provide information to applicants regarding the Concept Proposal Application process. See the attached workshop agendas for more information. 7th Annual Watershed Forum
April 10 in Sacramento

This year's “Watershed Day at the Capitol” is a great opportunity to learn about the political climate regarding the future of watershed stewardship. It also provides an interactive forum for watershed practitioners to meet with elected officials and let them know that it pays to invest in community-based watershed stewardship. The Forum will take place at the CalEPA Building, 1001 I Street – Byron Sher Auditorium, Sacramento, CA.

A Water Framework for California: Insights from Innovative Approaches in Europe April 10th 9am - 5pm in Berkeley

This conference includes presentations on water management in California and Europe by leading scholars, practitioners, and agency officials, and presentations of results of a workshop (held in connection with the course Hydrology for Planners) in which interdisciplinary teams of graduate students from UC Berkeley and the Technical University of Lisbon work on comparative water management, in California and Portugal. The Portuguese students were all participants in previous workshops in the course Mediterranean-Climate Landscapes, which involved Berkeley students traveling to Portugal to conduct research on water management issues common to California and the Mediterranean basin.

California Native Grasslands Association Conference
May 1-3 in Santa Rosa

Highlights include preserving California grasslands, conserving in mixed public and private rangelands, landscape-level protection of California grasslands, reconstructing diversity of grasslands, open space and native grassland restoration.

Northern California Region Land Trust Conference
June 12-13 in Fortuna

The 2nd Annual Northern Regional Land Trust Training Conference will be held at the Fortuna River Lodge Conference Center. Topics of interest include How To Build a Membership Program for Fundraising; Land Owner Outreach; Carbon Credits Program; Revised Planned Giving Presentation; Overview of the Land Trust Accreditation Program; & Update of the Vision to Create a Northern Regional Land Trust Council. There will be plenty of time for networking & getting to know land and water conservation professionals in Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Lake, Trinity and Siskiyou Counties. 3rd Annual Spring-run Chinook Symposium
July 10-12, 2008 in Nevada City, CA

The Salmonid Restoration Federation's 3rd Annual Spring-run Chinook Symposium will be held in Nevada City on July 10 followed by field tours on the Yuba River, Butte Creek and Battle Creek on July 11 & 12. SRF and South Yuba River Citizen's League (SYRCL) will partner to produce this watershed symposium to address the historic range and life history diversity of Spring-run Chinook salmon, status of Spring-run Chinook populations in California, current and potential actions for recovery, and salmon and water resources of the Sierra-Nevada. Other topics will include evaluating options for providing new habitat and improving freshwater survival, critical differences for recovery of Spring-run Chinook and steelhead, and how to build a fact-based and effective campaign for salmon recovery.
11th Annual Coho Confab
August 15-17 on the pristine Smith River in Northwest California

SRF, Trees Foundation, Smith River Advisory Council, and the Smith River Alliance will host the 11th Annual Coho Confab featuring tours of Mill Creek restoration projects, erosion control and fish passage projects, underwater fish identification, macro-invertebrate sampling, networking, great music and food. Fee $100-125 includes all food and lodging. Limited scholarships and work trade positions are available.
